In Body Mapping, we work to correct and refine our internal idea of how we are built and how we function. We also develop the skill of inclusive awareness, enabling us to keep our whole body in a fluid relationship with our mind and our environment. These two practices gradually lead to consistency and ease in our performance. They are the foundation of presence. We can think of presence as the absence of hiding, of letting ourselves be truly seen. When we have practiced well, we don’t have to hide our poor preparation or inadequate technique, but many of us still hide some insecurity. Refining the self-map can bridge the gaps between preparation, technique, and communication. Mapping ourselves as creative artists, worthy of attention, gives us the courage to be vulnerable – present – to our audience members so that we can perform with them, rather than forthem. In this session, participants will explore aspects of the body map, inclusive awareness, and self-map that will enable them to practice and perform with presence.
