Described by Yehudi Menuhin as « the instance of the 21st-century musician » Gilles APAP is known for his virtuosity, unique approach to music, and the skill to bring joy to every concert hall. He delivers distinctive performances of the standard classical repertoire combined with genres such as jazz and folk from around the world and the result is unique programming merging the borderlines between musical styles. Gilles’ artistic freedom and approach to interpretation is based on years of traveling and serious research, exploring the native music of the different cultures worldwide.

Gilles has appeared at the Konzerthaus (Berlin), BOZAR (Brussels), Cadogan Hall (London), Philharmonie de Paris, Tokyo, Adelaïde (Australia), Paleo (Switzerland), Mito (Italy), Rheingau, Ludwigsburg, Dresde, Würzburg (Germany), amongst many others. In 2018, Gilles recorded Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with the Nordic Chamber Orchestra which was followed by tours in Sweden. He also is regularly leading workshops and education projects across Europe including Gstaad Menuhin Academy, Kronberg Academy and Paris Philharmonie, working with children as well as young professionals and Ariana Todes, former editor of The Strad, published an interview highlighting these eclectic aspects of his career. 2018-2019 season includes concerts in Tel Aviv (Israel), Talloires (France), Sanary-Sur-Mer (France), Musikwoche Braunwald (Switzerland), Festival Klassik Nuevo, Basel (Switzerland), concert with the MAV Symphony Orchestra, Budapest (Hungary), Athénée Théâtre Louis-Jouvet, Paris (France), Neumünster Abbey (Luxembourg), concert with the Orquestra Classica de Espinho (Portugal), Tour in China, Flagey in Brussels (Belgium), Nantes, concert Prelude for the Folle Journée partners (France), tour with orchestra in Italy, in Concerto with Orchestre Symphonique Région Centre-Val de Loire/Tours (France), Festival Le Printemps du Violon in Paris (France), Festival Week-End Musical Pully (Switzerland), Bologna (Italy), concerts with the Israel Sinfonietta, Traunstein (Germany), Bozar in Brussels (Belgium), Deia International Music Festival, Palma (Spain), Pietrasanta (Italy), Festival des Nuits de la Citadelle in Sisteron (France), Sion Festival (Switzerland).

During the 2018-2019 season, Gilles APAP plays with orchestra BACH double violin concerto ; BARTOK Rhapsodies 1 & 2 ; BEETHOVEN Concerto ; VIVALDI Four Seasons ; MOZART Concertos n° 3 & 5 ; Arvo PÄRT Fratres ; TCHAÏKOVSKI Concerto ; RAVEL Tzigane ; SARASATE Gipsy Airs (Zigeunerweisen).

Gilles Apap plays regularly with his band « COLORS OF INVENTION » (Gilles Apap, violin ; Myriam Lafargue, accordion ; Ludovit Kovac, cimbalom ; Philippe Noharet, double bass) ; « MEDUOTERAN TRIO » (Srdjan Vukasinovic, accordion ; Taylan Arikan, saz/baglama ; Gilles Apap, violin) ; « THE BLUE GRASS BAND » (Gilles Apap, violin ; Thierry Lecocq, mandolin ; Jean-Marie Redon, banjo ; Sharon Lombardi, bass guitar).

After participating in the International Menuhin Competition in 1985, Gilles established a lifelong relationship with Yehudi Menuhin, together they worked on Gilles’ legendary cadenza of Mozart’s Third Violin Concerto, filmedand directed lately by Bruno Monsaingeon, known for his documentaries about Gould, Richter and Oistrakh, Monsaingeon directed two further films about Gilles Apap and his approach to music, and declared that the violinist’s art represents music in its greatest possible purity.
