Melissa Malde

Mezzo Soprano Melissa Malde has performed with numerous orchestras and opera companies throughout the United States, including Kentucky Opera and Opera Colorado. She has sung abroad with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, the Prague Radio Symphony, Vancouver Opera, and Opera Classica Europa in Germany. Melissa holds degrees from Oberlin College and Conservatory, Northwestern University, the University of Cincinnati, and the Hochschule für Musik in Munich, where she studied under the auspices of a German Academic Exchange (DAAD) grant. While in Munich, she won first prize in the Kulturforum Competition. Other honors include winning Cincinnati Conservatory's Concerto Contest, first prize in Chicago's Sudler Oratorio Competition, a Farwell Award, and the Brice-Gooter Award from the NATSAA competition. Melissa was trained and licensed in Body Mapping with Barbara Conable, the founder of Andover Educators, now the Association for Body Mapping Education (ABME). She wrote the chapters on breathing, phonation, and resonance for the book What Every Singer Needs to Know About the Body, now in its 4th edition. Melissa teaches Classical Voice, Body Mapping, Music Wellness, and Vocal Pedagogy at the University of Northern Colorado. She is a nationally recognized teacher and clinician and has held leadership positions in the National Association of Teachers of Singing as well as ABME. Her current research is on art songs set to secular Hebrew poetry. She is fluent in German but teaches in English.
