Over a twenty-year career Matthew Trusler developed a reputation as one of Britain’s leading violinists, performing with many of the world’s great orchestras, and receiving huge critical acclaim for his diverse recordings. In the UK he performed at the BBC Proms, and regularly appeared as soloist with major orchestras including all the BBC Orchestras, the Philharmonia, London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, City of Birmingham, the Hallé and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. Further afield, he appeared with the Minnesota Orchestra, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hanover, Helsinki Philharmonic, Deutsche Symphony Berlin, Malaysian Philharmonic, Düsseldorf Tonhalle, Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen and Johannesburg Philharmonic. Alongside this, in 2005 Matthew started a record label, Orchid Classics, as a passion project which quickly established itself as a significant creative force recording many of the world’s major artists. The company recently won a Latin Grammy Award with Gabriela Montero, one of the most successful recording artists of her generation, in her first release with an independent label. Other highlights have included a Classic BRIT nomination and a Gramophone CD of the Year for pianist Boris Giltburg; the debut album from soprano Louise Alder; and Fairy Tales, an album of children’s poetry and music with actors Simon Pegg, Clive Owen, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Conti. In October 2018 Orchid released a single, written by Jools Holland, in order to raise money for the Lenny Trusler Children’s Foundation. The single went to No.1 in the iTunes chart. In 2018 Matthew took over the running of Orchid full time, with the label now releasing over 20 new albums a year and continuing to position itself as a genuinely artist-led endeavour.
