Penelope Roskell, Professor of Piano at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and author of The Complete Pianist, will present a workshop on how to expend less effort in order to achieve greater physical and artistic freedom. As the foremost UK specialist in healthy piano playing, Penelope will share her expert advice on how to establish a healthy, practice routine which achieves quick results while avoiding mindless repetition. She will also show how to warm up effectively and how to use whole-body, flowing movements to give greater physical freedom.
The workshop is open to all instrumentalists who wish to develop greater ease at their instrument. Penelope's approach to technique will help you minimise tension, which will in turn lead towards richer sound quality and greater control and accuracy. The workshop will include a Question and Answer session in which Penelope will answer questions on practice methods and on all aspects of healthy technique. Although Penelope is a piano specialist, she has worked with a wide range of instrumentalists and has created an acclaimed Yoga for Musicians DVD. This workshop will have relevance to all instrumentalists, with some focus on piano playing.
